“Weird Music Night,” Thursday, April 4th
Ely Center of Contemporary Art, New Haven, CT.
Curated by John O'Donnell

Zach Rowden is an experimentalist musician and sound artist known for his imaginative, and even ground-breaking, dealing with the acoustic and performative possibilities of the upright bass. Rowden has performed with Iancu Dumitrescu, the late Ana-Maria Avram’s Hyperion Ensemble (member/soloist), The Ghost (with Michael Foster and Derek Baron), Tongue Depressor (with Henry Birdsey), and Charmaine Lee, among others. He plays improvisations and noise, the noise/sounds often due to his prepared double bass. He’s been experimenting with studio electronics and modulating the sound of the double bass, but Rowden’s art is fundamentally acoustic. (https://www.inner-magazines.com/cultu...)
