Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police 11 a.m. live update on ambush that killed 4 officers, injured 4 others in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday, April 29.

Four law enforcement officers were killed and four others were injured during a standoff with a man who was wanted on warrants out of Lincoln County on Monday, investigators said.

Three law enforcement officers serving on a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and one Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer were killed Monday after being met with “active gunfire” from a suspect inside an east Charlotte home. A total of eight law enforcement officers were shot, including three CMPD officers and one officer from the task force who were injured.

The suspect was identified as 39-year-old Terry Clark Hughes Jr. The U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force was attempting to serve multiple warrants against Hughes at a home on Galway Drive in east Charlotte when they were met with "active gunfire," according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. Hughes was shot and killed during the encounter.

Two other people were found inside the house after Hughes was killed, according to police. It's unclear if they will face charges related to the incident. CMPD hasn't identified either person.
