Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is a sector of The Boeing Company located in Arlington, Virginia. It is accountable for the production and provision of defence and aerospace products and services. Previously, it was referred to as Boeing Integrated Defence Systems (IDS).
The formation of Boeing Integrated Defence Systems took place in 2002 by the merger of the previous divisions known as "Military Aircraft and Missile Systems" and "Space and Communications". In 2021, Boeing Defence, Space & Security elevated Boeing to the position of the third-largest defence contractor globally. Boeing Defence, Space & Security is a unified group that merged several prominent aerospace companies, including Boeing Military Aeroplane Company, Hughes Satellite Systems, Hughes Helicopters (excluding the civilian helicopter line divested as MD Helicopters), Piasecki Helicopter (later known as Boeing Vertol and then Boeing Helicopters), the St. Louis-based McDonnell division of the former McDonnell Douglas Company, and the former North American Aviation division of Rockwell International.
