A suite of music cues, composed by Dudley Simpson, to accompany the Liberator in the third season of the BBC science fiction series Blake's 7 from 1980. This video is a revised upload due to a blocked section from 'Moloch' - I hope this edition gets the all clear!

The third season of Blake's 7 - with a number of episodes placing greater emphasis on the main characters' interpersonal relationships and the legend of Blake's ship as a beacon of hope now secured - resulted in some of Simpson's most romantic and glorious cues for the series and that is conveyed frequently in the scoring of the Liberator, especially on 'Harvest of Kairos', 'City at the Edge of the World' and, above all, 'Children of Auron'. All of that would culminate, however, with the ship's ultimate fate in the season finale and Simpson ensures that the closing moments encapsulate the end of an era with desperate variations on the main title theme.

The third season's music is also distinctive for the inclusion of a song! The ninth episode - 'Sarcophagus' - written by Tanith Lee contains a beautiful short song (05:04), sung by Josette Simon (Dayna) with lyrics and music by Tanith Lee, arranged by Dudley Simpson.

This video is part of a wider project to celebrate the music of Blake's 7. Blake's 7 was created by Terry Nation and made by the BBC across 1978-1981. The clips in the video feature the actors (in order of appearance) Josette Simon (Dayna), Paul Darrow (Avon), Steven Pacey (Tarrant), Michael Sheard (Klegg), Michael Keating (Vila), Jan Chappell (Cally), Jacqueline Pearce (Servalan), Andrew Burt (Jarvik), Rio Fanning (Deral) and Gillian McCutcheon (Kostos).

The Liberator was designed by Roger Murray-Leach and constructed by Ian Scoones, Space Models and Martin Bower with model work by Ian Scoones and Mat Irvine.

The 'Moloch' section is indebted to Horatio Chinn's superb Liberator model:    • Blake's 7 Liberator
