Starting my 48 states in 10 days challenge out heading to the East Coast had me going through a lot of states right away on the seat of the new Harley-Davidson Pan America.
Day Two was planned at 11 states total: NH, ME, MA, RI, CT, NJ, DE, MD, WV. I left the hotel with New Hampshire as my first stop of the morning, and after passing two car accidents it left me on a bit of a higher alert as these roads weren’t interstate but the “fastest” way to get up to Maine. I could smell the ocean breeze through my helmet and knew I was reaching the farthest northeast I would be for the challenge. I enjoyed a gas station muffin and recapped my social media platform with updates from the previous night as a lot were tuning in. Only a select few close family/friends received my actual Spotwalla tracking link that showed every 5/10 minutes where I was located. Headed south from Maine, that’s when the skies started to turn grey and after checking the radar weather app on my phone…I was in for a full day of riding yet again the rain. Somehow managed to get a break just briefly from the wet in Rhode Island, but it started up again as I passed through the wonderful NYC traffic trying to connect on the George Washington Bridge onto the New Jersey turnpike. My city traffic at low speeds, in slippery conditions with bumper-to-bumper traffic was truly tested. It felt like the rain never stopped: New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware all testing out the capabilities of my waterproof gear. After 10 hours of riding in wet conditions, I reached West Virginia and the only time seeing the sun for the day was enjoyed as I passed over the Delaware bridge just at sunset. While I didn’t make it quite to where I planned to be, I was so ready for a hot shower and some sleep.
Thanks for tuning in and make sure to subscribe for more moto-related content!
