American Idol alums Colton Dixon, Melinda Doolittle, and Danny Gokey paid tribute to their friend Mandisa, who died at 47. The former contestants performed Mary Mary's song Shackles (Praise You) on the American Idol stage, inspired by Mandisa's performance on season 5. The song became a constant in her career and went on to record the track for her debut album True Beauty, which went to No. 1 on the Christian music charts. Danny Gokey said that championing Mandisa's story was a "no brainer" and that they would come back to do so to celebrate. Mandisa made it to the top 9 on the show in season 5 and won a Grammy in the Best Contemporary Christian Music Album category for her 2014 album Overcomer.
