We are so excited to spend the next couple of weeks exploring Idaho and that is starting with 3 days in Twin Falls! We are really looking forward to spending time in this very underrated state.

Day 1

First up is one of the things I am most excited for during our time in Twin Falls, the Blue Heart Springs. We rent a kayak from Banburry Hot Springs to get out on the Snake River that cost us $35 and that is for 4 hours. The Blue Heart Springs are about a 1.5 mile paddle one way down the Snake River. We are told it should take around 45 mins to get down and 1.5 hrs to get back going against the current.

It is an easy paddle down the river and we enjoy the very impressive canyon views along the way. We make it to the Blue Heart Springs and it really is like a deep blue oasis... it is set in this small cove in the canyon and the water is crystal clear.

The water temperature is around 58 degrees and it is actually in the high 90's today in Twin Falls so is pretty perfect for a swim! We both jump in and the water is bone chilling cold so we don't stay in for very long. We hop back in our kayak and head the 1.5 miles back up river.

Up next we head to the Box Canyon State Park which is a part of the Thousand Springs State Park. Thousand Springs is a group of several different parks and we plan to visit a few of them while we are here.

There is a short 4 miles hike here around the canyon that starts out following along the rim. We then make our way down into the canyon and follow next to the river. We go for one more swim before making our way out of the canyon. The weather takes a turn for the worse at this point and the clouds start building around us. We end up running the last mile or so back to the car in efforts to avoid the thunderstorm heading our way.

Nonetheless it was a beautiful hike and it's so hard to believe this is amidst the otherwise very flat plains of Southern Idaho. The Snake River has completely transformed the areas surrounding it and we had a great first day exploring here!

Day 2

Today is going to be all about the waterfalls. Twin Falls is actually nicknamed “The City of Waterfalls.” I think there are over 30 in the area and we have narrowed it down to a few must see spots for today.

We start at Shoshone Falls which is known as the “Niagara Falls of the West.” It cost $5 to enter but it is definitely worth it! The falls are 212 feet tall and 900 feet wide. There are a couple overlooks that provide awesome views of the multi-tiered waterfall and it is a very impressive sight!

Next we head to Pillar Falls which is a half mile hike down into the canyon. It is a very steep trail and although it is a fairly intensive hike, the falls are worth it! The water flow is a little low this time of year but there are giant pillars that tower over the river and showcase little waterfalls all around.

We end the day at the Perrine Coulee Falls. We are so surprised to see these very impressive falls are just right off the side of the road near the Perrine Bridge. The falls are 200 feet tall and the best part is you can walk behind it!!

Day 3

First up we head to the Perrine Bridge for sunrise. The Perrine Bridge spans the Snake River Canyon and it is a huge steel truss-arch bridge that’s over 1000 feet long and almost 500 feet high. We don't get much of a sunrise because it is really hazy from the wildfires out west but it is a great way to start our day.

Later that day we head to Ritter Island. It is unfortunately already closed by the time we arrive but there are 2 waterfalls actually outside the gates that we get to enjoy.. Mini Miller Falls and Lemon Falls.

Our final stop in Twin Falls is the Malad Gorge State Park. This is a 451-acre park located just off Interstate 84. Like so many things in Idaho so far, it is very unsuspecting to have such spectacular canyon views just a mile off the highway.

There is a loop drive here with 6 viewpoints. We make the drive through the park and stop to enjoy several different views which completes our time in Twin Falls.
