We've been getting lots of questions about our new Kernel Keeper products so we put together this video answering the most frequently asked questions.

HOW MANY ROWS DOES A SINGLE KERNEL KEEPER KIT COVER?
One row.

HOW MANY KERNELS DO I NEED TO SAVE TO BREAK EVEN?
Our beta testing has shown Kernel Keeper can pay for itself by saving just 2 kernels per 6 square feet! That’s just 1/3rd of a bushel per acre!

HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?
Internal testing has shown a life greater than 150 acres per row. B. Example of total life: 6 Row = 900 Acres: 8 Row = 1200 Acres: 12 Row = 1800 Acres.

IN TYPICAL CONDITIONS HOW MUCH MONEY DO I SAVE?
At $5 per bushel, a 6 row head and a savings of just ONE bushel per acre ( approximately 2 kernels per square foot) you will NET $3,330 ($555/ row) over the life of the product (900 Acres). That is a net return of 285%! Same calculations for larger heads: 8 Row = $4,440 NET, 12 Row = $6,660 NET

I HAVE BEVELED DECK PLATES. WILL KERNEL KEEPER WORK FOR MY CORN HEAD?
Not at this time. We are working on a solution for beveled deck plates.

I DON’T SEE MY MODEL OF CORN HEAD OR GATHERING CHAIN LISTED. WILL YOU BE OFFERING IT IN THE FUTURE?
We are growing this product line.

MY BRUSHES DON’T SEEM TO FIT PROPERLY. AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG?
Kernel Keeper includes brushes for the right side and for the left side. The brushes are marked with an R or L and should fit perfectly into the fingers on your gathering chain. If the brushes are still riding too high, please identify which gathering chain you have to confirm that you have the correct brushes.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT MODEL OF GATHERING CHAIN I HAVE?
Consult your owner's manual or reach out to your OEM dealer.

MY GATHERING CHAIN RIDES TIGHTLY ON THE KERNEL KEEPER RAIL, WILL THIS DAMAGE MY CHAIN?
No, the gathering chain will ride higher on the front sprocket due to the addition of the Kernel Keeper rail. This will not affect the life of your chain or the sprockets.

I AM HAVING TROUBLE DRILLING THROUGH MY DECK PLATES. DO YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS?
We suggest tapping the holes first, then using drilling lubricant. It is easier to remove the deck plates and drill them on a drill press.

WHY DOES KERNEL KEEPER USE “PLASTIC” RAILS?
Kernel Keeper rails are manufactured from Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene. This material has a proven track record in abrasive wear situations. It is the same material used to make skid shoes, auger liners and G4 Stalk Stompers. The poly provides a much softer landing for the ear allowing for the transfer of energy to the dampening pocket.

WHY IS THE KERNEL KEEPER RAIL OFFSET FROM THE DECK PLATE EDGE?
The stalk facing edge of the deck plate is hard faced with weld in most cases. By offsetting the Kernel Keeper edge, the majority of the wear is still against the hardened deck plate edge.

DO I NEED THE BRUSHES?
The best results come from installing the brushes. The brushes redirect loose kernels into the auger trough instead of allowing them to fall through the head.

IF I TRADE IN MY CORN HEAD, CAN I REMOVE THE KERNEL KEEPERS AND PUT THEM ON MY NEW CORN HEAD?
If you have the same model of corn head and gathering chain, you can move the Kernel Keepers to your new head. If you have a different model, you will likely need different brushes.

ARE REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE?
Yes. Call us to order at 1-800-788-6483.

WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO OFFER PRE-DRILLED DECK PLATES?
We plan to have pre-drilled deck plates in the near future. We will continue to offer both solutions, allowing the grower to enjoy the benefits of the Kernel Keeper without having to buy new deck plates.
