STONE THRONE

2023
James Lostlen
Granite with Aplite intrusions

Fabrication and Installation of a 2 ton granite chair made from a single boulder. While excavating on my property for a pool, I found a large boulder that I thought would make the perfect chair. I had first envisioned this to be a Victorian love seat, discovered some constraints on the width of the stone so I opted to make it a throne. This decision better preserved the natural characteristics of this rock, and who doesn't want a throne on their property!?

The fieldstone walls were assembled using the rocks from a nearby trenching project, and span over 250 ft. I ran lights behind the wall to create a glowing effect through the negative space between the stones.

This was another large project that I completed bit by bit over the course of a few months. The stone throne is installed in the backyard of my property, immediately adjacent to the live fire grills, creating a beautiful backdrop while cooking with friends and family. It makes a wonderful transition from civilization into the native landscape of national monument surrounding the property.

PS I upgraded my mic and turned up the VO volume, hopefully that prevents the comments from being dominated with comments like “I'm really angry because I can’t hear you!”
