Find out what it's like to travel to the outback on one of Australia's few remaining government-run sleeper trains in first class. The Spirit of the Outback connects Brisbane with the Longreach, in the heart of the Queensland outback.

It's the only rail journey in Queensland where sleeper passengers get their own private cabin, with all main meals included in an exclusive dining carriage.

In this video, I review the the first class sleeper experience, including meals in the Tuckerbox Restaurant and drinks in the Shearer's Rest lounge car. I also take a look at the seats in economy for comparison.

This video showcases the beautiful scenery along the way, including sunset and sunrise and a spectacular journey over the Drummond Range.

Travelling between Brisbane and Longreach twice a week, the Spirit of the Outback is a relaxing but joyous adventure. Although the rolling stock is ageing, it remains a popular service.
