Did not realize this beach area existed in Tarpon Springs, located on the Gulf of Mexico. We were looking at a map and noticed it, so decided to come check it out. The drive out to it is nice, through a residential area until you come to the park that leads to the causeway to the beach area.

The beach portion of the park is easily accessed by this mile-long causeway that provides a scenic panorama of the Gulf of Mexico. Both the beach and the causeway are man-made, having opened to the public in 1966.

You can fish here. The most popular species caught here are Spotted Sea Trout, Red drum, and Mangrove red snapper. Just make sure you follow local regulations.

The park's history dates back to 1945, when Tarpon Springs Mayor Fred Howard was elected. Howard had a long career with the Pinellas County Park Board and the area was dedicated in his honor in 1966.

The park is free but it costs $5 for the whole day to park near the beach.
Alcohol is not allowed OPENLY at the beach.
