GUANIMES:
In this episode of Criollo Kitchen, César Pérez whips up some Puerto Rican Güanimes- a type of corn dumpling wrapped in banana leaves, boiled, and served as a side dish or on their own. If you see banana leaves at the store- snag a pack and try these at home!

"Güanimes, also known as güanimos, are a Pre-Columbian corn dumpling from Puerto Rico rooted in the culinary traditions of the Taíno–the indigenous people of the Caribbean. As a close cousin of tamales and hallacas, güanimes are regaining popularity in modern-day Puerto Rican cuisine. While most commonly prepared with cornmeal and coconut milk, there are variations made with plantains and other tropical tubers. You’ll usually find these served alongside bacalao guisado, a saucy stewed salted cod dish, but they pair beautifully with any stewed protein." ~César
