Superheroes have been around for a long time, and those that have been around the longest have amassed the biggest collection of colorful foes - whether you’re the last son of Krypton, a billionaire orphan, the fastest man alive or a friendly neighborhood web slinger, you just can’t seem to stop attracting every single criminal that ever put on a mask or mutated themselves or got their hands on some advanced weaponry.

So why do we keep seeing the same three or four enemies in their movie series? How many Jokers and Catwomen are we going to see before we get a Ventriloquist or a Mad Hatter? Do movie writers even know Superman enemies not named Luthor or Zod exist? It doesn’t always feel like it.

Spider-Man, however, has been good about it. With eight solo movies under his belt since the early 2000s, almost every movie has had a new primary antagonist, with mostly everyone’s favorite grinning Goblin making repeat appearances… and enemies that HAVE been making repeat appearances have been carryovers from earlier film series. Variety is the name of the game!

But that doesn’t mean Spidey is running out of crooks to catch. There are so, so many more classic - and some more obscure - enemies that Spidey could duke it out with on the big screen, either as major antagonists or as small-time crooks to get us in the mood for some superhero butt-kicking… and here’s a whoppong 20+ of them! You’re very, very welcome!
