Mukhtar Ansari, the five-time MLA from Uttar Pradesh's Mau, died of cardiac arrest on Thursday evening. The gangster-politician, who was lodged in Banda district jail, was rushed to Rani Durgavati Medical College earlier this evening after his health deteriorated.

According to prison officials, 63-year-old Ansari's health deteriorated after he broke his Ramzan fast in the evening. Doctors were first called to the jail to treat him, but he was rushed to the hospital after medics suspected he had a cardiac arrest.
