An e-diff is a computer-controlled limited slip differential, activated by a high-speed servo motor. After looking at inputs like the steering wheel position and the cornering load, yaw rate of the body and throttle position, the e-diff distributes drive left and right to maximise traction and increase cornering performance.

The result is more traction, increased yaw rate (less understeer) and you can get on the throttle earlier in the cornering process in extreme driving situations - such as on a racetrack. Earlier throttle application makes the car faster on the next straight and slashes lap time, obviously.

It takes a while to adapt to an e-diff on a track - initially you feel as if you are getting on the gas unreasonably early in the cornering process. When you get used to it, however, you'll see your lap times tumble...
