Led by Ted Givens, 10 Design has just completed the new Fushan Primary School, which will serve as an educational and community hub for the local residents in Zhuhai, China.

The scheme was inspired by traditional Lingnan Garden design that emphasises innovation, unique materiality, and abstract natural forms.

The inward-looking plan with two volumes of school building surrounding its courtyard creates a safe learning space while guaranteeing open-air circulation and visibility. The courtyard is further activated by the art room and theatre, along with the geometric patterns of the garden and the façade created by applying the mathematical Lorenz attractor.

A student-housing complex, community centre and retail centre – including food and beverage stores, a library, and medical clinics - are placed around the school to foster creative and balanced experiences for both the students and local residents.
