Gary Klutt presents the Legendary Porsche 959, the off road super car of the 1980s. Only 292 of these Porsche 959s were built making it the rarest of its generations classmates: The Ferrari F40, 288 GTO and the Countach. We discuss the history of Group B Racing and what propelled Porsche to create an All Wheel Drive supercar with unique features found on no other supercar to date.

This 959 is a great original example of a 959 Comfort edition.

With a 2.85L twin turbocharged Flat 6 Engine, the 959 uses Water-Cooled heads to create 444 horsepower. Featuring a 6 speed transmission the car was unusually built to handle off road situations with a low Gelände gear to compete with the likes of the Audi Quattro and other Rally cars of the time. The PSK system let you electronically vary the torque between the rear and front axles with adjustable ride height and shock dampening.

The body composed of Kevlar composite kept the silhouette light and aerodynamic with Nomex flooring as we examine in the video once reaching the engine bay. 17 inch magnesium alloy wheels and run-flat tires came with one of the first automatic tire pressure monitoring systems.

The features and performance came at a cost however, as the model nearly bankrupted Porsche with each unit running nearly 50% of the car's MSRP. This Komfort example came with heated sport seats that were electronically adjustable and an alarm system.
