Most traders know market hours as 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern time. But many don’t know about pre-market and post-market trading.

You can start trading premarket hours as early at 7 a.m. Eastern and post market until 8 p.m. Eastern.

Why are these extra hours important? And how do you trade them?

A lot of earnings news comes out before the market open or after hours because they don't want to release news when the stock market is open.

So how should you look at premarket trading?

You have to see if there’s news. Why is this company in play? Will people want to trade this early?

Be skeptical. The market is very illiquid, so you don't have a lot of movement or a lot of volume, and you might try to buy a stock based on what you think is good news.

When trading after hours you need to look at earnings or news, but don’t try to predict ahead of time!

Wait for the reaction. The market will tell you what’s good, bad, meaningful, or useless.

It's dangerous to trade after hours. It's dangerous for you to try to judge the value of news.
The stock market isn’t an exact science. You need to learn the rules and gain experience.

Do you trade after hours? Why or why not? Leave a comment below and let me know.
