Club Lunch: The Shipping Forecast: Keeping Global Trade Flowing in Uncertain Times

 Published On Mar 27, 2024

With over eighty per cent of everything transported by sea, the shipping industry is the lifeblood of global trade and the driver of globalization. Few industries are so inextricably linked to geopolitics and the broader world economy. Disruption of trade through the Red Sea and the continued impact of the war in Ukraine are just two elements that are making shipping even more volatile than usual. In addition, managing the “green transition”, ensuring crew welfare, and continuing to operate in an increasingly demanding regulatory environment are just some of the challenges the shipping industry faces.

Hong Kong remains a global maritime centre, a centre of excellence for ship owning and the wealth of services that serve the industry. At this lunch, three Hong Kong based shipowners and managers, Angad Banga, Olivia Lennox-King and Tim Huxley discuss the key issues affecting the industry and why Hong Kong will continue to remain a major shipping hub. Moderated by FCC Vice President, Jennifer Jett.
