Have you ever wondered what goes into creating your favorite CGI characters? It’s a long process that involves multiple people, and sometimes multiple actors portraying the same character. One CGI character required five actors to bring to life! When it comes to Marvel, they don’t do anything halfway. They are fully committed to creating larger than life characters that are believable and tangible. Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo and James Spader are some of the most popular actors to portray a CGI being in a Marvel film. Learning how these characters came to be will give you a greater appreciation for the actors, filmmakers, and movies as a whole.

Thanos is one of the most impressive feats of CGI creation, combining incredible visual effects with the breathtaking performance of Josh Brolin. This was a culmination of everything Marvel had done before. By the time Infinity War came around, they had plenty of experience and practice with CGI creatures and motion capture. And thanos wasn’t the only motion captured character in Infinity War. His loyal Black Order was also entirely CGI! And of course, the Hulk was CGI too.

Some actors like to both voice CGi characters and portray them on set. Wearing a motion capture suit can be an embarrassing experience, as it doesn’t look the most flattering. One actor that experienced this said, “There was the element of wearing a leotard that reduced me to a Chinese checkerboard.”
