Hard hike but so worth the views! A great hidden gem that is quite the workout. Burnside Lake Trail starts at Grover Hot Springs State Park with a flat trail leading into the national forest. My son Josh and I had a great day with this trail all to ourselves. The first portion of the trail is all shaded under tall trees until you start to reach the loose granite and steep sandy switchbacks. This is where the trail gets hard. In the next few miles, you have over 1,000 ft per mile elevation gain. Once above the tree line, we had the most breathtaking views of the snow-capped mountains and valley below.

We were unable to make it to Burnside Lake on this trip due to too much snow and a sign of recent mountain lion and bear tracks. If we had snowshoes with us, we could have continued. We will definitely be back this summer to check out the lake.
