The Jack the Ripper murder sites have undergone an awful lot of change in the 133 years since the atrocities occurred, and picturing them as they were in 1888 can be difficult. So I have created a video tour that takes you around the five sites where the murders of Mary Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes and Mary Kelly took place.

You will see the sites as they are in 2021 and will be able to compare them as they are today with how they appeared at various times in their pasts, including how they were in the late 19th century at the time of the Whitechapel murders.

The tour begins with a visit to Durward Street, which was formally Buck's Row, which was where the 1st victim, Mary Nichols, was murdered in the early hours of Friday the 31st of October, 1888. It is currently the scene of the development of the Crossrail Whitechapel Station. The film will show you what is happening there today, and then take you back through the various stages of its history to that long ago morning when Charles Cross found the body of Mary Nichols in a dark gateway.

We will then move on to Hanbury Street, to view the murder site of Annie Chapman - which took place on the 8th of September, 1888 - from various angles and at various times in its history.

The third murder, that of Elizabeth Stride took place in what is now known as Henriques Street, but which at the time was called Berner Street, on the 30th of September 1888, and we will stroll along its modern incarnation to compare it to how it appeared in 1888.

Moving on to Mitre Square, on the eastern fringe of the City of London, we explore the site when, at 1.45 on the morning of the 30th of September, 1888, Police Constable Edward Watkins found the body of Catherine Eddowes in the Square's south-west corner.

And finally, we head to Commercial Street to uncover the site of Dorset Street, where in a court that ran off it, Miller's Court, the final victim, Mary Kelly, was murdered on Friday, 9th November, 1888.

The Jack The Ripper Murder Sites Then And now, will provide you with a vivid insight into the locations where history's most infamous series of murders occurred, and will help you gain an understanding of the lay out of the area in which the crimes occurred.
