In this episode of Mastering Diagnostics, Motor Age Technical Editor Brandon Steckler presents the first video demonstration (in a series of three) of “learning how to learn.” The idea behind the video is to learn how to leverage the power of the tools you use and the service information systems you have available to you.

Stick with Brandon as he walks us through the research necessary to gain insight into system operation. Next, follow Brandon out to the vehicle where he carries out the test plan created from the service information. Once at the vehicle, he implements a 4-trace digital storage oscilloscope and low-amp current probe to monitor the operation of the ignition system.

Brandon demonstrates through waveform analysis, how he uses the story that the tools tell him to make an evaluation of system/component performance.
