It may have been long overdue, but Marvel finally gave us a Black Widow solo story and her very own movie. Packed full of huge action set pieces, awesome superhero landings, origins of fashionable clothing, and adorable pigs, Black Widow is a gritty affair that is a decent ode to the character that has rocked our screens for over a decade. But it wasn’t just a standard origins movie set early on in the MCU timeline, but was one that instead weaved through the MCU chronology, spanning decades and covering multiple stages of Natasha’s life. Because of this, the exact timeline (and where it fits in with the grand scheme of things) can be a little confusing, so we decided to unravel the plot and follow the sequence of events in order.

We will start with Natasha’s origins in with her life with her ‘family’ in Ohio in the 19902s, through her training in the Red Room and as a Widow, her turn to the Avengers and the famous Budapest operation, to the moment where the majority of the movie takes place half way through the MCU timeline, till the final post-credits scene that takes place in the present/future. We will also seek (and ask) some unanswered questions from the movie, see how Black Widow compares to other movies in the timeline, and ultimately how it sets up future Marvel projects to come in Phase 4.
