Home Automation and remotes may not seem like a perfect match, but thanks to an MQTT bridge and Home Assistant, this remote has shown me that they can work together and make for some magical experiences.

This remote was sent to me from BestJoy along with the MBridge which allows it to talk to home assistant via MQTT. The combo is well designed, as a remote that is customizable for the display being able to send MQTT commands is an easy to program setup that allows it to set scenes or trigger automations easily.

The remote is also a smart remote that can learn IR and RF (433 and 315mhz) commands which is great. It also can emulate bluetooth remotes, has apps (required) for programming, and includes AI features to help match it to remotes.

For physical features, it has an OLED display, trackball which can emulate a mouse for android devices, magnetic charging port and a number of nice satisfyingly stiff buttons.
