I’ve noticed imposter syndrome manifest itself in my life and other lives in 3 distinct ways :

- perfectionism (first verse) - it’s a plague that only feeds into thinking you’re an imposter. You don’t make moves because you’re afraid of failure. If you cannot present the world with a version of yourself that is less than “perfect” you’re essentially saying that this supposed perfect version of yourself is the only suitable one. In your mind you’re an imposter larping as a this perfect person.

- Unified imposter syndrome (chorus) - Everyone who is trying to progress in this world will have imposter syndrome. This is because they have to take a leap into a less than perfect version of themselves (the version that can fail) at some point.

- Fake it til you make it (second verse) - this is actually one of the solutions to imposter syndrome. In order to make progress there must be a moment or many moments where you take that leap. Attempting to lift a weight you never have, stepping on stage to perform in front of a crowd, interviewing for a job that you have never done, etc. are all examples of this. If you do this enough you’re not faking it anymore. You have caught up and now you’ll no longer feel like an imposter.
