A restaurated video from 1918 about the U.S. Coast Guard stationed at the Life Saving Station at Muskegon, Michigan, on the shores of Lake Michigan. The original film is called 'Heroes of the U.S. Coast Guard'. First, the station's exterior, crew’s quarters, communications room, and dining area are shown. Then we witness Boat drills, signal drills with semaphore flags, and patrol drills. A single beach patrol walks along the shoreline and a motorized lifeboat is removed from the shelter by an eight-man crew dressed in foul-weather gear and launched on tracks from shelter to shore. The Vessel is sighted, an alarm bell sounded, breeches buoy equipment is rushed to shore and set up. A breeches buoy is sent out to the vessel and a passenger is brought to shore. The equipment is returned to the shelter and we see views of the lighthouse and beach patrol framed by U.S. Coast Guard life preserver.
