One notable development in the early going this season is a lack of significant playing time for highly regarded freshman cornerback Cormani McClain. One of the top true freshmen in the nation, Colorado defensive back Cormani McClain, has had a rough go of things throughout his freshman campaign. But he got the start on Saturday in a loss to Arizona, earning effusive praise from his head coach after the game.

Sanders said he noticed a change from McClain sometime during the previous week of practice. After that continued for another week, he was ready to give McClain a chance to start at outside corner. As the Colorado football team goes through growing pains in Deion Sanders’ first season as head coach, there are several areas of frustration and several signs of improvement.

One of the most positive developments is the continued maturation and growth of freshman cornerback Cormani McClain.

The five-star recruit, who was rated as the No. 1 cornerback in the country coming out of high school earlier this year, has gone from the doghouse to the starting lineup in recent weeks. In Saturday’s 34-31 loss to Arizona, McClain got his second start of the season and played every defensive snap. He posted two tackles.
