So many have asked me how I am able to detect flavor nuances in pipe blends. New pipe smokers (and some with significant experience) will say “all I taste is hot air” or “all I taste is an ash tray”, while others can taste basic flavors but still struggle with detecting a blend’s nuances. This is a discussion of what you need to understand and practice to make progress in your blend tasting.
