Paul Pierce is a retired American basketball player who had a distinguished career spanning 19 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA), primarily with the Boston Celtics. His remarkable achievements led to his induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2021. Following his retirement from playing, Pierce transitioned into a role as a basketball analyst on ESPN's programs, including The Jump and NBA Countdown.
Pierce, a standout high school player, received accolades such as being named a McDonald's All-American and earning consensus first-team All-America honors during his junior year at Kansas. Selected by the Boston Celtics as the 10th overall pick in the 1998 NBA draft, Pierce dedicated the first 15 years of his professional career to the team. He earned the nickname "the Truth" from Shaquille O'Neal in 2001 and served as the Celtics' captain, achieving 10 All-Star selections and being named to the All-NBA team four times. Teaming up with Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen in 2007, they formed a formidable trio known as the "Big Three," leading Boston to two NBA Finals appearances and capturing the championship in 2008, where Pierce was named NBA Finals Most Valuable Player. Recognized for his contributions to the sport, Pierce was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in October 2021, joining the elite company of Larry Bird and John Havlicek as the only Celtics players to score over 20,000 career points.
