Not sure how this ad establishes the actor's credentials as an expert who "knows a thing or two about the value of a dollar": if you can find a quality pair of sunglasses that are ANSI-approved for impact resistance, block 100% UV, while being free of optical distortions, then let me know!

In all probability, such sunglasses are cheap Chinese knock-offs using lead-based paint, or have been stolen and fenced at a swap meet! There's absolutely no way to obtain quality eye wear for $1.

Unfortunately, most consumers don't realize that cheap eye wear is actually MORE DANGEROUS for their eyes than wearing NO sunglasses at all, since the lenses are dark enough to let the pupils dilate; lenses then fail to absorb 100% U.V. (even if the label claims they do!). So these lenses allow even MORE ultraviolet light to enter the eye, causing more exposure to U.V..

We know long-term exposure to U.V. is associated with earlier cataract formation, not to mention macular degeneration, etc.

So how does saving a few bucks compare to having to pay for blindness, expensive treatments, etc, down the road? Answer: it doesn't. Sometimes a penny saved is a dollar deferred.

Hint: if you want value in eye wear, consider buying one of these those "dollar menu" burgers, taking out the patties, and attaching them with lettuce strands to cover your eyes. While the optics may suck, I can guarantee THEY will block out 100% U.V. (which is more than the sellers of $1 sunglasses can honestly say). :)
