“Screamin'” Jay Hawkins wrote, composed and performed the original version of "I Put A Spell On You" back in 1956. Although it was popular, or at least notorious over the years, his single failed to chart. However, his rendition is included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. One of the best known covers of Hawkin's song is by legendary performer Nina Simone. Her version reached #23 on the U.S. Billboard R&B chart in 1965.There are only a few known performance videos of Simone singing "I Put A Spell One You." The video here comes from a 1968 performance in the United Kingdom.

Alternative cover versions: The one that reached the highest position (#58 in 1968) on the Billboard Hot 100 was by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Other notables were recorded by The Allan Price Set, Bryan Ferry, Marilyn Manson and Sonique.

Technical: This is a short version of the song, but as she performed it in concert. The video quality and the sound have been enhanced, and the lip sync corrected, to improve the overall quality of this more than 50 year-old performance.
