LC (Lucent connector) was developed by Lucent Technologies towards the end of 1990s. It is a small form factor connector incorporating a push-and-latch design providing pull-proof stability. It is one of the most used connector types worldwide. LC connectors use a 1.25 mm ferrule. This Ferrule is a standard ceramic ferrule connector, that is also used with other connectors like the MU and LX-5. This means that these connectors could be cross-mated but cross-mating adapters are not easy to find. The LC connector is easily terminated with any adhesive. It yields a good performance, and it is highly favored for single mode. LC connectors come in single mode and multimode versions. The single mode connector also features LC/UPC and LC/APC polish. The LC connecter is also referred to as Little Connector due to its compact form factor.
LC is covered in the following standards:
TIA 568 for A & B port identification on duplex adapters and connectors
TIA/EIA-604-10A, FOCIS 10 Fiber Optic Connector Intermateability Standard – Type LC
IEC 61754-20 (2002-08) Fibre Optic Connector Interfaces – Part 20: Type LC Connector Family
