Infectious diseases physician Professor Peter Collignon says Victorians should “be optimistic” about reopening since they can learn from New South Wales which is a few weeks ahead.

“If NSW suddenly goes up to large numbers, well that means you've got to do it more slowly,” he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

“But I think all the expectations in NSW is it will level off.”

Professor Peter Collignon also pointed out “things are much better here than in England or Europe”.

“We had a lot less cases in the first place, we’ve got higher levels of vaccination," he said.

“And we’ve got weather going in our favour to decrease the amount of transmission because people can spend more time outdoors."
