Today we will review and analyze a number of chosen catastrophic railway accidents that occurred in Europe in the period from 2010 to 2023.

Before starting with the actual accidents we discussed a bit about terminology and the most common type of railway accidents - train collisions and train derailments. We explained what those are, what kinds of them occur, how they occur, how are they typically caused, and what are their usual consequences.

In the second part of the video, we tried to explain the most characteristic accidents that we selected in the mentioned period, including the Halle train collision in Belgium (2010), the Saxony-Anhalt train collision in Germany (2011), the Szczekociny crash in Poland (2013), Santiago de Compostela train derailment in Spain (2013), TGV commissioning test derailment on the Paris - Strasbourg line in France (2015), head-on collision at Bad Aibling, in Bavaria, Germany (2016), and, most recent, absolutely tragic, Tempi train accident, from Greece, in February this year.

Railway safety is of the utmost importance, and we must continue to learn from past mistakes and work toward preventing tragedies like these from happening in the future.
