This is a Motormouth couple car comparison of the Honda Civic hatchback and the Toyota Corolla hatchback. The Civic is 7 inches longer than the Corolla hatchback. They both offer about the same front legroom, but the Civic shines with second row space. It has over 7 inches more legroom and offers more than 6.5 cubic feet more space behind the second row compared to the Toyota. The Civic Hatchback has two engine options, the base engine is a 2L 4-cylinder matched with a CVT or 6-speed manual, 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. The second is a 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder, 180 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. Standard FWD and you can put regular gas in this turbo. The Toyota Corolla Hatchback has a 2L 4 cylinder with a CVT or a 6-speed manual, 168 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. Standard FWD.The Honda Civic hatchback has a higher starting price than the Corolla at $28,000 CAD/$22,900 USD for either the CVT or 6-speed manual. The Corolla with a manual transmission starts at $21,390 CAD/$20,815 USD and with the CVT $22,390 CAD/$21,915 USD. In Canada, the base trim of the Civic only comes with the 2L 4-cylinder engine but in the US, there are two trims with this base engine. The Civic comes standard with a 7” touchscreen and an optional 9” touchscreen on the top 1.5T trim. The Corolla comes standard with an 8” touchscreen, which is the largest size screen offered. The Civic also gets an available 10.2” digital driver display, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a moonroof, a power passenger seat and heated rear seats, which the Corolla does not have. Although, the Corolla hatchback is more budget friendly and has a lower starting price, it offers less space, there is no option of a more powerful engine and it comes with less available features compared to the Civic hatchback. There is a touch of elegance to this Civic hatchback with the striking honeycomb mesh accent that stretches across the dash from door to door hiding the air vents and creating a uncluttered design. Honda says, focused on high quality materials especially on touch points. Materials were chosen for practicality including the centre console design to hide smudges and fingerprints. The hatchback comes standard with a 7” touchscreen, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, manual driver and passenger seats and heated front seats. One up from the base model, which only comes with the 1.5L turbocharged engine in Canada includes, a moonroof, a heated leather wrapped steering wheel and synthetic leather and cloth upholstery. The top trim is where you’ll find the 9” touchscreen, 10.2” digital driver display, wireless charger, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, power driver and passenger seats, heated rear seats, leather trimmed seating surfaces and a Bose 12-speaker audio system. The Corolla hatchback offers a comfortable interior with a spacious front row for this class. The interior design is clean and simple with a mix of materials making for a very pleasant interior. It comes standard with an 8” touchscreen which is the only size available, Apple Carplay and Android Auto and a 6-speaker audio system. One up from the base model has heated front seats and a leather wrapped steering wheel. To get extra features like a heated steering wheel and wireless charger you have to go up one more trim to the SE Upgrade for an extra $1800 CAD. The top trim has a power driver seat, dual zone automatic climate control, a JBL audio system and mixed fabric and softex seats.
