Not all our mothers were from Makkah or Madinah, which is something we are learning from our mother Maria, the daughter of Sham’oon, may Allah ﷻ be pleased with her.

Before accepting Islam, she was an Egyptian Christian, gifted to the Prophet ﷺ as a slave by the governor of Alexandria.

She was famous for being a very beautiful, hard-working woman. Also, she was a brilliant and fast learner, but had a very private life, while living in the outskirts of Madinah and dedicated to ibaadah (acts of worship).

What is very interesting about her is that she is the only one after mother Khadijah who gave birth to a Prophet’s ﷺ child. His name was Ibrahim, and Allah ﷻ gave him the name through angel Jibreel. He was a very beloved son of the Prophet ﷺ, but he passed away very young, when he was only two years old.
