When I find something bad in people,
I try to believe for a great while
That they are more likely just pretend to be like that,
It’s a coincidence and I’m wrong.
And trying to justify such thoughts,
I want to believe, forgetting reproach
That maybe a liar is just a dreamer
And a cad’s nature comes from embarrassment.
The gossip that came to me
Probably let the secret out by stupidity
And the friend who once didn’t help in need,
He didn’t betray me; he was just at a loss.
I don’t run away from my troubles.
It’s something else.
I really hate believing in evil
As well as in meanness!
So when meeting the dishonest and the wicked,
I often try willing or not
To make them better deep down
And just to correct them somehow!
But the facts and time aren’t a trifle at all.
And no matter how long I force myself,
It’s still impossible to hide and mask putridity
Like donkey’s ears.
Truth be told, in my life
I had to face evil and more than once.
And how many great hopes have gone
And many friends have I thus lost!
And still I won’t give up believing
That at the start of any journey
One must treat people with trust
And kindness, kindness, kindness!
Let mistakes be (though it is no easy matter)
But your happiness will know no bounds
When you’ll meet someone up to your standards,
Someone you’ll be endlessly happier with!
Let the cynics pathetically mumble like children
That hearts are insecure…
I will not believe! There is a lifelong friendship
And love till the end!
And my heart keeps telling me: do seek and act.
But always keep in mind:
You also must live up to your own standards
And you’ll see that everything else will work out!
