They live among the locals. Yet they’re not recognised as citizens of the country. And although they’ve been living in the country all their lives, they don’t exist legally as a people at the place they were born. At the moment, there’re over a million non-Malaysians living in Sabah today. And they include - undocumented, stateless migrants who’ve made Sabah their new home.

Being stateless, many of them have been denied their basic rights that other citizens currently enjoy, including the rights to education, healthcare and employment. Who are these marginalised and unrecognised citizens otherwise known as Malaysia’s invisible people? Is there really a future for them living at a home away from home?
