HS2 is transforming Britain’s railways; providing vital rail capacity, better connecting the country and helping reduce carbon emissions. Now, the building begins. 30,000 workers and 2,000 apprentices are building 140 miles of track, 4 stations, 2 depots, 32 miles of tunnel, over 150 bridges, over 50 viaducts, over 70 cuttings, over 110 embankments, and planting seven million trees and shrubs. Find out what they are building and the benefits it brings.

HS2 will more than double the number of seats out of London Euston Station, creating the extra room needed to improve commuter, regional and freight services.Old Oak Common will be our super-hub station in London, helping create thousands of jobs and homes as well as providing a world class interchange for 250,000 passengers per day.

A feat of British engineering, skills and innovation, over half the route will be below the surface in cuttings and in tunnel. And, by creating a green corridor along its path we’ll leave a lasting legacy of richer, more diverse and better connected landscapes and wildlife habitats.

HS2 stations will be among the most sustainable in the world and by adopting low carbon methods of building, we’re on track to deliver the greenest, cleanest high-speed railway in the world. Birmingham’s Curzon Street Station will be at the heart of HS2, better connecting people and places for generations to come.

This 21st century engineering challenge will show the world the best of British skills, innovation and ambition. It’s a once in a generation opportunity to bring Britain closer together and pioneer a greener way to travel.
