👀 Octopuses always have to be on the look out for predators!
🦅 This cormorant is diving down to nibble at this common octopus in florida & he’s not having it one bit!

👻 Deimatic behavior is used by the octopus in an attempt to frighten predators and is commonly used by animals that lack a strong defense (enter the octopus and their squishy vulnerable snack like bodies)—
For our word nerds— Deimatic is Greek for “to frighten” - so the octopus is flashing colors & going through the motions to signal to this bird to leave em alone.
😅 but... It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt!
In certain situations, octopuses have been observed drowning birds to remove them as a threat— so SCRAM birdy!!! 🦅🐙😱
