Downtown Raleigh doesn't have many junkies or homeless people. There aren't many people at all. It's dead now and no one knows if it will ever get back to the way it once was.

I have a friend who lived in a fancy downtown high rise and he moved because there was nothing going on.

Is everyone in Raleigh in good shape? Is everyone in Raleigh friendly? Is Raleigh pretty much the fastest growing city in the entire world right now? And is anyone here actually FROM Raleigh?

We’ll answer those questions and more. So put on your NC State hat - I do that a lot anyways - and let’s get ready to unbox Raleigh, North Carolina!

Raleigh, North Carolina. Such a splendid place to live. I’d know. I lived there for three years. I have to say, if you were to try and come up with something WRONG with this place, it would be difficult to do so unless you were some type of pessimist who complains about everything.

Sure, no place is perfect. But if your biggest problems center around GROWTH, then I’d say that’s a pretty good problem to have. Wouldn’t you?

Tons of people are moving here from all over the world. Over the last ten years, the Raleigh metro area has grown by 23%. That’s second to only Austin, Texas. It's growing faster than even Orlando here. Look at that population growth people.

The reasons for all the growth are many - a nice climate, tons of jobs, low crime, decent schools, lots of new restaurants, plenty of shopping, and the cost of living. Well, the cost of living WAS a selling point, but home prices here have gone up 70% over the last 5 years. Yes, 70.

However, even with the spike in home prices, it’s still barely above average, nationwide.

You might be thinking about moving here yourself. So you need to know what you’re getting yourself into. In order to really understand Raleigh, you have to look at a map and then go through each part of Raleigh one area at a time.

This is Raleigh.
