A stunning audio-visual kinetic art installation SKALAR by light artist Christopher Bauder and musician Kangding Ray will land in Amsterdam in January 2020. This large-scale artistic production is a collaboration between Berlin’s design and art studio WHITEvoid, Amsterdam electronic music promoters Audio Obscura and one of the city’s most important cultural venues, Westergas. Last seen in Berlin in 2018 where it delighted many thousands of people with its cutting-edge blend of kinetic mirrors, perfectly synchronized moving lights and intense sonic soundscapes, SKALAR will reside in the iconic Gashouder in Amsterdam from January 10 to February 5, 2020.

SKALAR reshapes the landscape of exhibitions by bringing a moving audiovisual installation and art show to the iconic Gashouder in Amsterdam. SKALAR is an artwork that explores the effects of light and sound on human perception, with the creators narrating the journey as light vectors, kinetic mirrors and multi-channel surround sounds interact and evolve in reaction to each other. It seeks to provide a meditation on the fundamental nature and essence of basic human emotions, where light is treated as a solid material for the artists to manipulate as a sculpture would clay or marble.

De sensationele audiovisuele bewegende kunstinstallatie SKALAR van lichtkunstenaar Christopher Bauder en muzikant Kanding Ray zal in januari 2020 in Amsterdam te zien zijn. Deze grootschalige artistieke productie is een samenwerking tussen de Berlijnse ontwerp- en kunst studio WHITEvoid, Amsterdamse dance promotors Audio Obscura en Westergas, een van de belangrijkste culturele locaties van de stad. Na de succesvolle première in Berlijn in 2018, waar het spektakel duizenden bezoekers trok, is de Gashouder van 10 januari tot en met 5 februari 2020 het toneel voor deze bijzondere ervaring waarbij een mix van bewegende spiegels, perfect gesynchroniseerde lichtstralen en soundscapes samenkomen.

Het is de eerste keer dat een tentoonstelling van dit formaat naar Amsterdam komt. SKALAR is een kunstwerk dat met de effecten van licht en geluid inspeelt op de menselijke perceptie, waarbij de makers een verhaal vertellen door middel van lichtstralen, bewegende spiegels en surround sound die op elkaar reageren. SKALAR biedt bezoekers een vorm van meditatie aan waarbij de aard en essentie van menselijke emoties centraal staan en de kunstenaars dit door middel van licht kunnen manipuleren.

De tentoonstelling is dagelijks geopend in de middag en avond en bezoekers zijn vrij om zo lang te blijven als ze willen terwijl de installatie voortdurend doorloopt. SKALAR kan op verschillende manier worden ervaren; staand, liggend, langzaam dansend of starend naar de verbluffende schoonheid die de bezoeker omringt.
