Within sight of the Brisbane CBD lives the southernmost Australian East Coast population of the iconic Dugong (Dugong dugon). Moreton Bay is home to vast seagrass meadows managed within the Moreton Bay Marine Park and providing necessary habitat not only for Dugong but for hundreds of Green turtles. Very blessed to have such incredible marine life alongside such a major metropolitan area.

Dugongs and Manatees are the only members of the Sirenia family - a distant relative of the Elephant. They still retain small tusks which explain many of the scars found on their bodies. The Dugong featured in this video has been the victim of a vessel strike and bears propellor injuries to it's tail.
