So 2018 was arguably the greatest year for comic book movies ever. Avengers Infinity War, Deadpool 2, Black Panther, I could go on. But arguably the best one was Sony’s animated Spider-Man film, Into the Spider-Verse.

Doug: Yeah they were doing multiverse before multiverse was cool.

Right?! So Into the Spider-Verse follows Miles Morales’ Spider-Man. A young teen from Brooklyn, New York, who’s dealing with your typical teenage issues. The main one being him trying to find out who he’s supposed to be. Little does he know his world's about to get a lot bigger.

Now similar to Peter Parker, Miles is very smart and attends a high school for the gifted. He has very loving, but sometimes overbearing parents who expect a lot from him. Oh and his dad’s a cop. [clip, Miles, I love you on speaker]

Miles is also very passionate about art and graphic design. One night he sneaks off to visit his uncle Aaron. Aaron Davis being a character we actually met a variant of in Spider-Man: Homecoming. He was played by Donald Glover and even made a reference to Miles! [clip, my nephew lives in this neighborhood]

So after uncle Aaron sees Miles' sketchbook, he takes Miles to a spot where they can turn it into graffiti art. They go to a subway station and it’s there that we see Miles bitten by a- you guessed it, a radioactive spider. [clip, bite and then Miles swatting it away.]

After discovering he has spider-powers, Miles goes back to where he was bitten and finds the spider. The spider is glitching just like we see the other spider-people glitching when they’re in a universe that isn’t their own. The spider also has Alchemex 42 written on it. Alchemex being the company assisting Kingpin with his super collider. A machine that will allow him to access parallel universes so that he can bring back his wife and daughter. [clip, Vanessa!]

So Miles investigates a little further and finds the super collider hidden beneath the city, and it’s there he meets his universe’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man. [clip, you’re like me]

We see Spider-man fight the Green Goblin, who’s giant like the Ultimate Green Goblin in the comics that kills Peter, paving the way for Miles to become Spider-Man.

So we see Spider-Man fight Goblin and then he gets caught in a test run of the super collider. The way the super collider works is by having a piece of the person's DNA placed within it in order to bring a variant of that person from another universe into their universe.

Peter Parker’s Spider-Man getting caught in the collider results in different spider people from other universes being brought into this universe. All of them share a similarly altered DNA strand because they’ve all been bitten by a radioactive spider.

So frst up, we have Peter B. Parker. [clip, I’m Peter B. Parker]

Peter B. Parker, B for Ben as in Uncle Ben. His Spider-Man has your standard Spider-Man. Bit by a radioactive spider, uncle Ben died, saved the city a few times, marries MJ, you know the story. But this Peter has had a not so great future. His Aunt May died, he and MJ got divorced, and he’s in a really dark, depressive, and unmotivated phase of his life. [broll crying in bath tub]

Then there’s Gwen Stacey’s Spider-Gwen. In her universe she becomes Spider-Woman and Peter Parker actually became The Lizard. [clip, couldn’t save my best friend.]

Next we have Peni Parker, she doesn’t actually have spider-powers but is instead telepathically connected to the radioactive spider that bit her. The spider that bit her now lives inside a giant robot spider that her dad built, and together they pilot this giant robot spider to fight crime. [clip, this can’t get any weirder, it can get weirder]

Yes, yes it can. Peter Porker aka Spider-Ham has got to be the strangest Spider-Man we meet in this movie.

Doug: Wait, he’s a pig that was bit by a radioactive spider?
