The most densely populated Hawaiian island is Oahu. Those who live on the island likely think that its volcano is completely extinct, but this is not the case. Looking around the island, a number of large explosion craters can be seen such as Punchbowl Crater and Diamond Head. These represent eruptions from the latest phase of the overall volcano's activity, which continues to the present. Although unlikely, this dormant volcano could theoretically erupt again in the distant future.
