Student-staff partnership in STACK content development at Maseno for undergraduate studies

Abstract: Maseno University has for the last five years been using digital technologies, mostly STACK for the teaching and formative assessment of some of its Maths courses. Authoring a good STACK question needs quite a bit of expertise and can be a tedious and time-consuming process, at least initially. Due to time limitations for STACK content development and immense workload faced by university lecturers, external help is needed in developing new STACK questions, and improving existing questions. At Maseno, there has been an effort to train undergraduate students who have just completed their studies as well as interested postgraduate students in the authoring of STACK questions. The authoring process involves working alongside lecturers who sometimes provide the questions and help in conceptualizing the questions for authoring. It is the students who do the bulk of authoring and improving authored questions. This process has been largely supported by IDEMS International and INNODEMS Kenya, two not for profit organizations, the former based in the UK. In this talk, we will share our experiences in STACK content development and the key input from students that help improve authored STACK questions.
