Volkswagen officially announced the changes slated to hit the Jetta lineup for the 2022 model year, including some adjustments to the range-topping GLI. While nothing has dramatically changed from a performance standpoint, the new GLI packs updates styling, tech, and safety features. Like every 2022 Jetta, the new GLI features revised front and rear facias. The new front end features a more modern grille design, complete with bright accent bars and the GLI's signature red stripe. The classic VW honeycomb cue also returns in the lower front fascia, as well as out back by the diffuser. A new dual-exhaust also pops out of the updated rear end, which VW says will provide a better tone than the outgoing Jetta GLI model. That new exhaust is fit to the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as before, which makes 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Buyers will have a choice between a standard six-speed manual gearbox and VW's seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Other performance hardware includes VW's electronic limited-slip differential, their XDS Cross Differential System, upgraded brakes from the outgoing Golf R, as well as adaptive dampers. The new GLI receives a multi-link rear suspension, whereas the standard Jetta gets a torsion beam set-up. A set of 18-inch wheels are also part of the GLI's equipment package.
