As a general rule, you will shoulder check two times for turns, lane changes and any other time you change direction of the vehicle. You will shoulder check approximately 1/2 block before the turn and immediately preceding the turn. However, when sitting at an intersection for a time, you may have to shoulder check again--maybe three or four times--because the traffic situation is going to change.

Good luck on your road test.
