Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe confidently and clearly presented the case for his company’s new, smaller R2 electric SUV at a reveal event early March 2024 — and then wowed the room with not one but two extra vehicle debuts in a "one more thing" moment ripped straight from the Apple playbook.

But the star of this particular show was the R2, showing up with boxy styling that shares much with the R1S, its larger brother, which regularly appears in the driveways of expensive addresses in California.

And, yes, under that flat hood is a frunk large enough to hold a hard-sided carry-on bag, plus a backpack and satchel. It’s much the same story out back.
